I earn a living by making sure that things are done predictably and reliably, and that people don't become insane or sad while doing so. Ideally, they even enjoy this process – this is how I see myself as a manager. We all make mistakes, but I'm trying to do fewer of them, this is why I'm learning from others who were kind enough to mess things up before me, learn from it and share their experience with the world. While learning, I make notes – here they are:
- On leaderless teams
- Communicating bad news
- Hard conversations in the workplace
- How to work with a workaholic colleague
- What it takes to scale an engineering team
- What good managers do
- Daily reflections
- Thoughts on group chats
- Why you may be overlooking moon shots
- Five communication voices
- Staff engineer types
